Elgin Watch Ships Chronometer
A high quality chronometer mechanism ships antique clock in the original mahogany box. Double hinged for access to the mechanism to wind and a glazed to hinge for viewing. Mounted on a rotating gimball with locking device to the side. A screw down bezel to the 7 cm wide bevellled glass surround. An enamel dial with seconds and power reserve indicator to 40 hours. A fine precision 21 jewel chronometer mechanism no. 16748293. Circa 1940.
Elgin were asked to produce these for American ships and boats for WW11. Not many were produced and these seldom come onto the market.
