Danish Silver Tea Strainer with Stand 1928
Here we have for sale a beautiful early 20th century Danish 826 silver tea strainer and stand. The strainer has a stylish round pierced bowl, hourglass shaped handle, Fleur-De -Lis decoration and reeded border. The elegant drip tray stands on three feet with matching decoration.
This is a fine quality hand made example that blends tradition and modern design in perfect harmony: The Fleur de Lis and Reeded border decoration is inherently traditional while the strainer shape and bowl represent avante garde minimalist, modern Danish design. The form indeed follows function the tradition of tea drinking is expressed in the traditional decoration, while the modern day (interest in drinking tea) is represented in the clean minimalist lines and Art Deco style bowl - indeed this design combination is mirrored in the stand. The marriage of traditional and modern design is seen throughout design history and is evident in the most beautiful twentieth century objects, such as the Rolls Royce and Bentley motor cars.
