William Bateman (Probably) Silver Fish Slice 1817
For sale is a very attractive silver fish slice.
This Regency period fiddle pattern fish slice has a very attractive pierced decorated blade and the handle is also decorated with what looks like the very ornate letters HFFN. The reverse of the handle carries the very clear silver hallmarks for London 1817 and the very rubbed makers mark for what looks like William Bateman I. In photograph 5 it is just possible to make out the curvature of the start of the William Bateman stamp along with the start of the letter W, but in real life in the right light it is just possible to make out what looks like the W B along with the distinctive curvature of the start and the end of the William Bateman I stamp of this period.
The fish slice weighs approximately 125.7g and is 11 and 5/8 inches (29.5cm) long, and because of the rubbed makers mark is being sold at the very reasonable price of £185.
