Vintage Silver Pen Tray, R.E. Porter, B'ham, 1984
This is a good quality Vintage Sterling Silver Pen Tray. The tray is oblong with a flat base and a scalloped rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pen tray would look good on any desk but would work equally well as a trinket tray for necklaces on a dressing table or as a condiment tray on a dining table.
The tray was made in Birmingham for R.E. Porter of Bournemouth and dates to 1984. R.E. Porter was a longstanding retail jewellers and silversmiths based in the centre of Bournemouth. They commissioned pieces to their own designs from manufacturers in Birmingham which they then sold through their Bournemouth store. The store was renamed Portique in 1997 and finally closed in 2022.
Condition is very good, with just one tiny ding in the base of the tray plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tray is 20.7cm / 8.15ins long by 7.6cm / 2.99ins wide and weighs in at a substantial 102.7g / 3.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the tray, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter K for 1984 and the R.E.P sponsors' mark for R.E. Porter.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the tray.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
