Vintage Silver Bottle Coaster, Mappin & Webb, 1990
Here we have a fine quality Vintage Elizabeth II Sterling Silver Bottle Coaster. The coaster has a turned wood base with a green baize underside and a central silver button. This is topped by a pierced silver gallery in the Georgian style.
The bottle coaster is made in London by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb and dates to 1990. Originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr, in 1859 the firm split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The firm remained in the Mappin family until it was merged with Walker & Hall and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.
Condition is extremely good with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bottle coaster is 12.8cm / 5ins in diameter and stands 3.9cm / 1.5ins high. It weighs in at 116.3g / 4.1oz.
The hallmarks, on the side of the bottom rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter Q for 1990 and the Mn & Wb makers' mark for Mappin & Webb.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the coaster.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
