Classy and very elegant - this vintage powder compact by Pygmalion is a delight! - c. 1940/50 it has survived in lovely condition - Measuring c. 3" inch x 2.5" inch, the golden etched central oval is exquisitely done, framed in black enamel finish, the edges are slightly scalloped and ornate. It is a very nice piece, all clasps and hinges are in good order, opening to reveal a clear bevelled mirror with an inner opening lid, signed Pygmalion. The inner powder well is clean and empty - A very nice piece, pretty and still practical.

Mr S.D. Rand owned the name and Pygmalion brand - generally the company did not manufature compacts, but purchased part finished pieces and then completed, marketed and distributed finished products. Based in London, the company was only in operation for a few years during the 1940/50 era. Compacts bearing the Pygmalion name are now highly sought after, this is a great example.
