Victorian Silver Trinket Dish, George Heath, 1888
Here we have a charming late Victorian Sterling Silver Trinket Dish. The dish is oblong in shape with a crimped rim. The base is decorated with an embossed landscape featuring a church and a castle to either side of an arched bridge.
The trinket dish is made in London by George Heath and dates to 1888. Heath registered his mark in 1884 and is best known for smoking related items such as cigar and cigarette cases, vestas and cigarette boxes, so it's possible that this trinket dish was meant to hold smoking accessories of some kind or was for use on a desk.
Condition is very good with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 130 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The trinket dish is 8.5cm / 3.3ins long by 6.5cm / 2.5ins wide and stands 1.3cm / 0.5ins high. It weighs a respectable 24.2g / 0.85oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, in the upper part of the picture, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter N for 1888, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the G H makers' mark for George Heath.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
