Sylvia H. Pells 1899-1974 Watercolour Hydrangeas
We are offering for sale this rather beautiful and dubtly toned watercolour still life by the gifted amateur artist Sylvia Helen Pells, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a bunch of Hydrangeas in varied but subtle colours, which would bring a feeling of calm to a room.
Sylvia H. Pells was born on 18th January, 1899. Her husband George Pells was a Company Secretary and they live from the 1950s onwards at 21 Woodlands Avenue, Weyubourne, Farnham, where Sylvia died on 11th November, 1974.
Sylvia exhibited with the Guildford Art Society and her work was selected for mention in the Surrey Advertiser on three occasions. In 1954 it mentioned a delicate flower piece from Sylvia H. Pells, in 1958, that of all the flower paintings those by Sylvia H. Pells were the most satisfying, and in 1969 they mention a watercolour painting of wild flowers by Sylvia selling for 12 guineas.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two-tone acid-free mountboard to complement the painting and is framed in a 3/4 inch soft gilt frame to suit. It will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
Image size: 19 1/4 x 12 3/4 inches - 48.95cm x 32.35cm
Frame size: 26 7/8 x 20 1/4 inches - 68.3cm x 51.4cm
