Superb French mahogany semainier chest of drawers
This is a superb French Louis XVI style mahogany semainier chest of seven drawers in good original condition dating from the late 19th Century.
It has a variegated marble top surrounded by a pierced brass gallery. The seven oak-lined drawers are flanked by fluted pilasters. The quality of the cabinet making and the detailing provided by the brass mounts is of the highest order. Apart from the square profile bail handles and keyhole shaped escutcheons, brass mouldings frame each of the drawer fronts and side panels, brass is inlaid into each of the flutes on the pilasters and even the turned and tapered legs are decorated with bands of brass.
The chest possesses an original working key.
Dimensions:
Width 74 cm (29 inches)
Depth 38 cm (15 inches)
Height 146 cm (57 1/2 inches)
Condition: The chest is in very good condition with some light wear as you would expect from a chest over a hundred years old which has been well-looked after. The only fault is that one of the seven drawers lacks a steel lock though this is only evident when you open the last drawer. It has been cleaned and polished in our workshop and is ready to find a place in your home.
Delivery: This chest can be delivered to anywhere on mainland England and most of Wales for £75 by our trusted delivery man who is an expert in transporting antique furniture and artwork. Any other items which you may wish to purchase at the same time would only incur a small, if any, incremental charge for their delivery. Please contact us if you wish to purchase several items at the same time.
You are also welcome to collect in person from the Tunbridge Wells area.
