Staffordshire pottery mug. Circa 1830. Staffordshire staffordshire mug %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A lovely little Staffordshire pottery mug, which unfortunately does not have a makers mark. However it was made between 1820 and 1840 and has survived in very good condition. There are no cracks, hairlines, scuffs or repairs, which is unusual for an item that was made for use. There is the "pooling" of glaze around the underside rim, and some kiln fritting to the base, which makes it an honest original piece of pottery.

The design of a bird tending its nest is transfer "printed" onto the mug and then overpainted in a rather crude but attractive way.

There is a number 4 printed to the base, so it may have been part of a set of different birds.

The mug stands 3 inches or 75mm high.

UK first class postage is included in the price.
