Robert Cleminson Oil on Canvas Dogs
Robert Cleminson Oil on Canvas Dogs
Robert Cleminson (1864-1903) was a painter in oils of landscapes, Highland game and sporting dog paintings. It is his animal and dog paintings for which he is best known. Cleminson undoubtedly found a ready market for his paintings, which are as popular today as they were during his lifetime. He exhibited 10 works at the British Institution, which was established as a rival to the Royal Academy, and at Boydell's Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall, London. He exhibited further works at the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street, London.
This painting is typical of his sporting dogs painting, with two eager setters or welsh springer's in rugged landscape. Beautifully painted , Cleminson has really caught the excitement and character of these beautiful animals. Probably Working Setters, although the forward one is very springer like
