Very rare Gillows export windsor chair. Made by Gillows these were for export to the West Indies. Gillows actually subcontracted the carpentry work to James Wilcock and family of Bentham North Yorkshire,and 1386 chairs were sent to the West Indies between 1783 to 1785.For full information please read Susan Stuarts article for The regional antiques magazine published 2010 . Susan has recently borrowed this chair and is soon to publish a updated article using this actual chair. I cannot find another chair like this for sale anywhere, however Temple Newsam house Leeds has the same chair in its museum collection.Please contact for more detailed pictures and information.
