We believe this interesting item to be part of an antique cast iron fire back. There is a baronial coronet cast into the top and what look to be some initials cast underneath. It looks to have been cut down from a larger item. It is very difficult to date, but we would estimate it to be seventeenth century. There are no maker's marks.

Condition: Overall in need of re-purposing, and would make a nice decorative item. It has some corrosion and wear consistent with age, and there is a crack at the bottom which looks to have been done at the time of manufacture or soon afterwards. It looks to have been cut down from a larger item and so is not complete.
