Pair of Yew and Elm low back Windsor chairs.
A pair top quality yew and elm slat back Windsor Chairs, which were made by the late Tom Thackray at his workshop in Misterton Nottinghamshire.
This pair have elm seats and yew wood legs, arms and backs, with the splats made from burr yew. Both chairs are low backed and have crinoline stretchers, and they are signed by Tom on the back of the seat.
The seats are 18 inches or 45cms from the ground and the top of the backs are 37 inches or 94cms from the ground. The distance between the arms is 22.5 inches or 57 cms.
They were made in the 1990's are in great condition.
I had the great privilege of knowing Tom, he was a wonderful person as well as a great windsor chair maker. A real character who loved making windsor chairs, and loved passing on his knowledge. He also taught chair making in America, having been 'discovered' by an American making a chair at his workshop.
Nottinghamshire is a renown county for the making of Windsor Chairs, and many of the countries leading makers worked in the Retford, Grantham and Newark areas.
They can be collected from Newark or Stamford or can be shipped anywhere in the UK. Please contact us for a quote.
