Octagonal Silver Dwarf Candlestick Birmingham 1920
This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Dwarf Candlestick with an octagonal base. The candlestick is made in Birmingham by Henry Williamson Ltd and dates to 1920. Founded in the mid-1890s, Henry Williamson Ltd manufactured a wide range of silver items in Birmingham and also had a retail showroom in London. They were in business up until the late 1920s.
With its octagonal base this dwarf candlestick is indicative of the more geometric Art Deco style that would become the dominant creative movement of the 1920s and 1930s and remains hugely popular today. The base is weighted and covered in red leather. The candlestick is a perfectly functional piece that would be perfect for use on a small dining table or to add soft candlelight wherever it might be required.
Condition is good with just a small ding on the rim of the sconce and the superficial surface wear you would expect after 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The candlestick is 7.7cm / 3" high and 7.1cm / 2.8" across the base. The weight is 114.8g / 4.05oz but please bear in mind that the base is weighted for stability.
The hallmarks, on one side of the base, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "v" for 1920 and the H.W.Ld makers' mark for Henry Williamson Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
