Mid 20th Century Maison Jansen Brass Steel and Leather
A very elegant Neo-Classical style coffee table in brass and steel by Maison Jansen.
French Circa 1950’s
Extremely well constructed as one would expect from such an iconic maker.
The rectangular top having the glass inset from the reverse side so to be seamless giving a smooth finish to the brass surround, supported by four steel columns with decorative reeded cone finials, terminating on finely tapering brass cylindrical feet.
The lower tier is supported by brass supports running parallel to the frame with the original tooled black leather insert, cornered with decorative rosettes.
In excellent condition retaining its original leather and crystal glass top which has some surface scratches as to be expected.
This is a very fine table of Neo-Classical style by on of the most renowned makers of their time.
Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Not originally equipped with its own workrooms for producing antique furniture, the firm began by relying upon antiques and the antique furniture contracted to outside cabinetmakers. By the early 1890s Maison Jansen had established its own manufacturing capacity producing furniture of contemporary design, as well as reproductions, primarily in the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directoire, and Empire styles.
