Mid-Century Silver Plate Toast Rack, Mappin & Webb
This is a charming small Mid-Century Silver Plate Four Slice Toast Rack. The toast rack has an oval base standing on four ball feet. The dividers are circular as is the finger ring handle.
The toast rack was made by Mappin & Webb in Sheffield and dates to around the 1950s-70s. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The firm remained in the Mappin family until it was merged with Walker & Hall and Elkington & Co to form British Silverware in 1963.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The toast rack is 9cm / 3.5ins long by 5cm / 1.97ins wide and stands 8.5cm / 3.3ins high. It weighs in at 74.9g / 2.64oz.
The underside of the base is stamped MAPPIN & WEBB at one end.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
