Mid-Century Silver Plate 1 Pt Tankard, Elkington
This is a good quality Mid-Century Silver Plated One Pint Tankard from the 1950s. The tankard is in a classic shape and has the initials M G C elegantly engraved on one side.
The tankard is made in Birmingham by world famous electroplaters and silversmiths Elkington & Co and dates to 1953. Elkington & Co are one of the great names of English silverware. Founded by George Elkington in 1836, they took out the world's first silver electroplating patent in 1838 and this is what they are best known for. However they always continued to produce very high quality Sterling Silver alongside their silver plate. The company was merged into British Silverware with Walker & Hall and Mappin & Webb in 1963.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The one pint capacity tankard is 11.5cm / 4.5ins from rim to handle, 8.5cm / 3.3ins in diameter and stands 10.5cm / 4.1ins high. It weighs 417.2g / 14.7oz.
The side of the tankard, near the handle, is stamped with the word PINT below the royal cipher of EIIR above the number 245 and has the number 53 next to it, which shows that it was stamped in 1953. The underside of the base is stamped with E & Co for Elkington & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
