Mary Brown 20th C. Pair Of Botanical Watercolours
We are offering this beautiful pair of still life, botanical watercolour/gouaches by the listed artist Mary Brown, who has signed the paintings one to the lower left and one to the lower right. The painting to the left depicts a bouquet of a mixture of garden flowers, including hellebores, dianthus, hardy geraniums and veronica spicata. The one to the right is a posy with a miscellany of wildflowers, including dog roses, foxgloves, cow parsley and daisies.
Mary Brown specialises in flower paintings in both watercolours and oils. Auction results for her work may be found at arcadja.com (17 listings) and 5 miscategorised under the artist Mary Brown Napangardi, who is an Aboriginal artist. There are also 2 listings on findartinfo.com. As the name Mary Brown is a very common name, we have been unable to find any other biographical information about her and she was painting too late for our record books.
The paintings are mounted in cream with wash lines, have expensive non-reflective glass, and are framed in their original 1 5/8 inch cream and gilt frames. They will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size: 10 7/8 x 6 7/8 inches - 27.65cm x 17.5cm
Frame size: 16 7/8 x 12 3/4 inches - 42.9cm x 32.4cm
Medium: Watercolour/gouache on grey paper.
Condition: Very good with true colours and no foxing or fading. The frames have very minor wear consistent with use, but are perfectly acceptable to hang.
