This is a superb pair of antique Indian gouache miniature portrait paintings dating from around 1880. These exquisite paintings of Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtaz Mahal, for whom of course, the fabulous Taj Mahal was created, are very finely executed. They face each other, in one, Shah Jahan offering Mumtaz a rose, and in the other, Mumtaz in receipt of the bloom. They are displayed in beautifully hand carved hardwood frames which measure 16 cms by 13 cms including the frame. Both portraits are in excellent condition. They make a very fine pair.
