Georgian Mahogany Stick Barometer, Gally.
Early 19th Century mahogany stick barometer. The herring bone veneered case is outlined with chevron stringing and edge moulded. The shaped glazed door encloses the scale plate and sits below the architectural pediment. The exposed tube terminates with a glass bulb cistern which is concealed behind the turned cistern cover.
The silvered scale plate is fitted with a manual vernier and engraved with a scale of 27-31" and the makers name 'Gally Fecit'. There were several Gallys working around the country in the first quarter of the 19thC. (London, Exeter, Manchester, Bristol, Glasgow).
