George VI Silver Egg Cup, Viner's, 1945
This is an attractive George VI Sterling Silver Egg Cup. The egg cup is of a simple, plain design with the cup standing on top of a circular base and a short stem. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The egg cup was made in Sheffield by the well known firm of Viner's Ltd and dates to 1945, right at the end of the Second World War. Viner's was founded around 1900 by Adolphe Viener, who later Anglicized his family surname to Viner. Starting out as electroplaters, the firm moved into silverware in the early 1920s. They remained extremely successful up until the 1970s but later had difficulties and ceased trading in the 1980s. The Viner's brand name is now owned by Oneida.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The egg cup stands 5.7cm / 2.2ins high and is 4.6cm / 1.8ins in diameter. It weighs in at 29.7g / 1.05oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, just below the top rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter C for 1945 and the E V makers mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
