George V Silver Shoe Horn & Button Hook, 1921
This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Handled Shoe Horn and Button Hook set. The silver handles on each piece are decorated with an acanthus leaf design whilst the steel shoe horn and button hook are plain and functional.
The set is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Crisford & Norris and dates to 1921. Founded in the mid-1890s in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter, Crisford & Norris produced a wide range of silverware up until around 1980.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents to the silver handles and just a small amount of wear to the highly polished finish on the steel, which is only to be expected after 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each piece is 18.5cm /7.3ins long and the two together weigh in at 92.4g / 3.2oz, made up of a mixture of Sterling Silver and steel.
The hallmarks on the handles are clear to read with the exception of the makers' mark on each piece, which is quite rubbed but still decipherable. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the C & N makers' mark for Crisford & Norris. The steel sections are stamped ENGLISH MAKE STEEL.
