French Tortoiseshell Bracket Table Clock
This is a particularly nice French mantle / bracket antique clock made by the eminent maker Francois Lesage (1850-70) of Paris who was a purveyor of Napoleon 111 and worked from Rue Hamelot and 91, Rue Truffaut.
The waisted case with scrolling foliate mounts and decorated with dark red tortoiseshell veneered background, the top surmounted by a cherub representing Hermes, foliate scroll mounts to edges and surrounding the aperture to base, glazed opening door with foliate scrolls and the mask of Zeus, the 6 1/4 inch gilt-bronze dial inset with Roman enamel hour plaques signed below F. LESAGE A PARIS, blued-steel hands, the twin barrel movement with rectangular plates and strike on top mounted bell, heavy plain pendulum.
The sides are glazed and the inset lined with brass. The inside of the rear door and the sloped bottom of the case are similarly veneered and lined.
Most unusually the case is stamped by the maker
The clock is 24 inches tall and 10 1/2 wide wide and 5 3/4 deep.
? The condition of this clock is exceptional and very original with the whole clock being professionally and sympathetically restored to the highest standards. The original finish has been retained throughout and although I am loathe to describe any antique as mint condition , this item is as very close and I am sure will delight the most discerning client.
Although I provide detailed photographs to the best of my ability this clock really needs to be personally viewed to appreciate to quality.
This is a genuine and original clock and I offer a full money back guarantee to this end.
