Engraved Biscuit Box - Floral Garlands c.1890
The photographs of this grand biscuit box do not do the piece justice. The glass and silver plated fittings (including the footed base) are all fitted together, the base holding the glass and bolted into place on the underside.
The four original bun feet support the base with hand engraved floral motifs. The glass is exceptional with fine hand cutting and exquisite wheel engraved floral and foliate garlands, very fine work and highly decorative.
The hinged lid is also engraved with a continuous floral and foliate garland.
The underside is fully marked, it is hard to make out, I do perhaps think is for the well renowned silversmith, William Hutton and Sons.
Excellent condition with the handles spanning 9 1/2" wide x 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" tall.
