English Regency Burr Yew Tea Caddy c.1820
A fabulous and highly sought-after tea caddy in one of the most decorative and prized timber, Burr Yew, with it's deep rich Cognac colour and exquisite burl.
This rarely found pillow-top shape is highlighted by fine Ebony stringing leading up to to inlaid parquetry diamonds in Ebony.
This grand box opens to reveal a fabulous and very elegant interior with two removable cannisters with hinged lids and still retaining some tea in both.
One cannister would have contained Green Tea and the other, Black Tea, these would be blended together in the central mixing bowl to taste before being transferred to the teapot. This box comes complete with the original period glass bowl, quite fabulous with engraved Fern decofation and a star cut base, the bowl in undamaged condition. The caddy came to us complete with this silver plated scalloped caddy spoon which we have included.
The caddy spans 13 1/4" from handle to handle, these are the original turned handles are are the four bun feet. All in excellent condition and complete with a working key, the lid dimensions measure 12 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 7 1/2".
