Edwardian Silver Chocolate Pot, T. Bradbury, 1901 Edwardian Silver Chocolate Pot %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Chocolate Pot. The pot is of tapering cylindrical form with the handle set at right angles to the spout. The ebonised wooden handle is attached via a heart shaped plate whilst the spout has a double drop decoration below it. The domed lid has a turned silver finial.

Although pots of this style are generally referred to as Chocolate Pots, they are equally as likley to be have been used for coffee and remain suitable for either hot drink today.

The chocolate pot was made in London by celebrated silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Sons and dates to 1901, when the company was being run by Turner Bradbury. The firm traced its origin back to Fenton, Creswick & Co in 1773 with the first Thomas Bradbury joining as a partner in 1795. By 1831 the firm was run by Thomas Bradbury Snr & Jnr and remained in the control of the Bradbury family until the early years of the 20th century. The company was bought by Atkin Brothers in 1943 and they maintained the brand name into the early 1950s.

Condition is very good with just a couple of truly tiny pinprick dings in the body plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The chocolate pot is 17.4cm / 6.8ins high, 18.2cm / 7.1ins from the rim of the base to the end of the handle and 8.5cm / 3.3ins in diameter across the base. It weighs in at a very substantial 324g / 11.4oz.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body near the hinge are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter f for 1901 and the T B in a shield for Turner Bradbury, head of Thomas Bradbury & Sons at this time. There is a scondary set of hallmarks inside the lid where the makers' mark is clearer to read.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the pot.
