Cut Glass Noggin Decanter w/ Silver Rim, 1923
Here we have a good quality George V Cut Glass Noggin Decanter with a Sterling Silver rim. The body of the decanter has a deep star cut pattern with a daisy cut to the underside of the base. The silver collar covers the top of the glass neck to provide a smooth and elegant finish.
Classic noggins, often from Scotland, are usually shaped as a small jug with a silver or silver plate lid covering the lip. In the 1920s these small noggin or nightcap decanters began to appear but had largely vanished by the start of the Second World War.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks in the glass decanter and just a tiny nibble on one point of the stopper. The silver collar is also in very good condition with no dings or dents. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The noggin decanter stands 17.2cm / 6.8ins high and is 6.3cm / 2.5ins in diameter. It weighs 360.7g / 12.7oz.
The hallmarks on the silver rim are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter y for 1923 and the CS FS mark for Cornelius Saunders & Frank Shepherd of Saunders & Shepherd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the item.
