Chinese Huanghuali Kang Table
Circa 1900, Qing dynasty Chinese huanghuali kang table. With raised floating panel insert contained in a broad frame with a shaped fore-edge which continues down to form the legs and finishes with a scrolling foot. The carved bracket above it has typical Chinese style carving. The underside of the top is braced to make the table sturdy and has the makers label on the base ‘Hou Chang House Shanghai’, written in English and Mandarin. The carving continues on both sides of the table making it freestanding.
