This is a charming late 19th century Sterling Silver Cream Jug with a gilt interior. The oval jug has a band of flower and bead decoration around both top and bottom rims and is very much in the Arts & Crafts style. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The cream jug is made by Fordham & Faulkner and was assayed in London in 1897. William Fordham and Albert Faulkner were actually based in Sheffield but around 1896/97 had a small number of items assayed in London. The partnership began in 1896 and they remained together until the start of the First World War. Their handcrafted silver is very much in keeping with the Arts & Crafts ethos.

Condition is good with just the regular wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The cream jug is 10.2cm / 4ins from lip to handle, 4.7cm / 1.8ins across and stands 7.6cm / 3ins high. It weighs a substantial 73.9g / 2.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter b for 1897 and the WF over AF makers' mark for William Fordham and Albert Faulkner.
