Art Deco Silver Cigarette Case Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Com
Here we have a top quality Art Deco Sterling Silver Cigarette Case. The case is decorated with engine turned stripes to front and back and the interior is gilded. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The cigarette case was made in London by the renowned Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1926. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 100 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cigarette case measures 8.4cm / 3.3ins by 6.1cm / 2.4ins and is 0.8cm / 0.31ins deep. It weighs in at a very respectable 88.5g / 3.12oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside of the case, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1926 and the distinctive G & S Co Ltd makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cigarette case.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
