This is a good original example of a hardwood Zanzibar chest which dates from the early 19th Century. The chest is a very decorative piece with heavy solid brass studs and beautifully tooled brass panels. This still has its original working lock and decorative key with beautiful tooling to the escutcheon. The heavy solid cast side handles have lovely worked brass back plates. The chest is in excellent original condition with original turned feet to the front and stile feet to the back. There is a small drawer to the base of the chest. It has an lovely colour and patina. The chest measures 70 cms by 45 cms by 54 cms high.
