Antique Sarcophagus Tea Caddy, Anglo Indian, 1850
This is an antique sarcophagus tea caddy. An Anglo-Indian rosewood colonial campaign casket with brass inlay, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.
Striking appearance with quality inlaid brass and a delightful sarcophagus form
Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order
Select stocks show fine grain interest throughout
Warm caramel hues beam beneath a wax polish finish
Shallow sarcophagus top with central lozenge bearing a brass inlaid quaterfoil symbol
Interior dressed with a pair of gently narrowing compartments
Each removable lid has a small brass pull set within an inlaid medallion
Lid interior lined with ruched velvet in a medium green hue
Front fascia dressed with an inset brass lock escutcheon — key absent
Further brass inlay decorating the caddy with golden tones
Circular brass drop handles to each side, looping through ornate foliate backplates
