Antique French Table Vesta - Dog In Kennel c.1890
An absolutely charming little box made from Burl Walnut and mounted with polished brass mounts with a good antique patina.
Of course what makes this box so special is the box being in the form of a Kennel with the most adorable little bronze do within sporting his original glass eyes. The chain is attached to his collar and has the key (working) on the other end.
The box opens to reveal a square 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" chamber, either for small cigars / cheroots or indeed just for matches with the strike intact. There is the remains of the original little paper label on the interior, I haven't been able to decipher it though. French in origin and dating to around 1890. Excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age.
