Antique Brass Inlaid French Rosewood Tea Caddy
A highly decorative and exquisite French tea caddy dating to around 1860. Made from Rosewood, the lid is beautifully inlaid with fine quality foliate cut-brass inlay.
The front has a complimentary brass inlaid escutcheon housing a working key (light pressure is required to be applied to the lid while locking). The sides are inlaid with brass stringing.
The interior is as beautiful as the exterior, lined in Satinwood with two removable liners, one for Green tea the other for Black tea still smelling of tea the caddy spoon is included as it came to me with the caddy.
The lids of the liners are beautifully inlaid with a floral and foliate design framed with stringing inlay. The hinged lids lift to reveal the original interiors (small loss of wood above hinge on one and a hairline to the base - neither significant but mentioned and shown for accuracy).
Excellent condition, measuring 8 1/2" x 5 1/4" x 5 1/8" high.
