19thC Sycamore and Ash chopping stool
Fabulous little chopping block that has been used for years, probably by a thatcher making pegs to hold the thatch. Or it may have been by a huge open fire for splitting kindling on.
Whatever its use, it's sycamore top is beautifully scarred by (probably) a billhook, where it has gouged for years, and every time one side got scarred it was turned one quarter round.
Now it makes a beautiful piece brimming with folk history. The three ash legs means it stands square, like a dairy stool, on even rough floors.
A great folk art piece. My shop at 1 Bridge St, Dulverton TA22 9HJ is open
1030 - 5pm Tues-Sat, and by appointment
