19th Century Dutch Silver Sauce Ladle, 1885
This is an attractive 19th Century Dutch 833 Silver Sauce Ladle. The ladle has a round bowl with a crimped edge that features a rural scene of a milkmaid, a cottage and a church. The stem rises vertically from the bowl and has a sea serpent as a finial with a coiled tail and fan dorsal fin.
The ladle was made in the Netherlands in 1885 and the makers' mark is H 13, which we haven't been able to identify as yet.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sauce ladle is 8cm / 3.1ins long and 5.5cm / 2.1ins across the bowl. It weighs in at 20.2g / 0.71oz of solid silver.
The hallmarks, on the back of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant above the number 2 to show that it is Dutch 833 / 1000 grade silver, the date letter A for 1885, the H 13 makers' mark and a star mark, which is probably the maker's trademark.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
