A beautiful and original Worcester bone china transfer ware printed plate in red. It depicts the profile of Queen Victoria in the centre and an inscription on edges which commemorates her Golden Jubilee of 1887, a celebration of her reign of 50 years as Queen form 1837-1887.

Text on plate front reads:
Jubilee Year
Walter Holland, Mayor of Worcester
Victoria Dei Gratia (by the grace of God)
Reg. Et Imp. 1837. 1887

On reverse:
Red Worcester Factory mark
British Registration Number "69919"
(Note: This date code for is for the year 1887)
It also has an incised number mark of "60" and a red potter's tally mark of E.

Who was Walter Holland?
Walter Holland was first a Justice of the Peace for Worcester before becoming Mayor of 1878-1881 and then elected again in 1887. As a yong man, he a RR employee of the Oxford, Worcester & Wolverhampton Railway, late Great Western Railway. He later formed a very successful UK signal equipment making partnership with Thomas Clunes of the Vulcan Ironworks in Worcester called McKenzie & Holland. His occupation is listed as a "Railway Signal Engineer Magistrate & Contractor Employing 480 Hands" in census records. We believe he died in 1901 at the age of 69.

The plate is embellished with beautiful Victorian scrolls, thistles, foliage and flowers, all in red around a deep edge. It measures 10.5 inches in diameter and was made at the famous Worcester Porcelain Factory in Worcestershire, England, about 30 miles southwest of Birmingham on the River Severn. The Worcester factory and porcelain industry was founded by Dr. John Wall in Worcester in 1751.

This original antique piece is in wonderful condition, printed in deep red tones. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. Click images to see condition in close up views.
