Description

A tortoiseshell sewing box fitted with silver sewing tools. Measuring 6″ x 3″ x 1 1/2″. Dating from the mid nineteenth century. The tortoiseshell is in super condition, all intact and with a highly polished finish. The box clasp snaps shut firmly. The pretty tools are all in very good used condition. They look to have been gilded once, just remnants remain. The tools are probably French as there are tiny hallmarks on the needle case but these are indistinct. They may date to the early 1800’s. The thimble shows it has been well used from the dents, but no holes. It is hall marked for Chester, lion rampant, size 7 possibly makers initials are H. W. and is a later addition to the tools. The tools include matching scissors, bodkin, ribbon threader and needle case.
