  Biffin Bridge (Kitchen)
Project Brief: Biffin Bridge was a commission to create a kitchen and eating area with a rustic charm, totally unique but at the same time functional. The client to this day insists that it is his favourite room in the house.

Walls and Bridges
The room was stripped of all its plaster and then sandblasted to reveal the beautiful colours and shades of the hand made bricks used to build this 19th century house.
Climbing a small brick staircase with brass handrail will lead you to an old pine panelled door just below the ceiling behind which you will find the refridgerator.
The kitchen cupboards are all crafted from reclaimed panel doors.
I used hand made Cheshire brick to create the battered stack fireplace that hosts a 19th century French wood burning stove.

Sinks You've Been Gone
The kitchen sink was originally a cap end that covered the flywheel on a huge wood cutting machine from an old timber mill. The taps came from a Victorian fire station and are fed by an inch and a quarter copper pipes!

Doors and Windows
The window over looking the garden is an original Victorian stained glass window.
Leading you from the eating area to the garden patio is a 19th century French door with fanlight.

One Mans' Ceiling
The ceiling was a unique Bitterman creation. Constructed of reclaimed pine doors each one fitted with a letterbox, door handles and locks some with mail and milk! All the doors are hinged and yes! all the doors open. It was this feature that raised my profile as a designer with a difference and would eventually lead to my biggest challenge to date - I was commissioned to create "Out of Order".

Out of My Tree
Another Bitterman classic! The tree shape is embossed onto a plaster surface using a cement-based product and a hand driven spray gun. There are no limits to the designs you can create using this method.

Wheels on Fire
The kitchen floor was designed as a tribute to the Great Industrial Revolution. Three huge cogwheels are constructed from reclaimed Cheshire brick and granite sets while the deep red tile is the molten steel flowing below.
