19th Century Ebonised Bonheur-du-jour A beautiful example of a 19th Century Ebonised Bonheur-du-jour with attractive foliate metal mounts, crossbanded and inlaid, the galleried back fitted with six drawers and a compartment enclosed by a mirrored door, having a tooled writing surface over a frieze drawer, on cabriole legs, together with a decorative and matching ebonised chair, having a brass lattice back panel on sabre front legs having been reupholstered in a gold Regency stipe. Offered for sale is this fine quality oak pedestal desk measuring 54" wide by 30" deep by 30" high. The desk splits into three parts for ease of movement, the two pedestals each with three graduated drawers and the top with another three drawers. It is of exceptional quality and dates from about 1920 with a makers plate inside one drawer "Maple & Co - Tottenham Court Road". The drawer fronts have geometric mouldings and are oak lined with hand cut dovetail joints and a back lip to prevent papers from slipping out the back of the drawer, the sides and back are panelled and the top has a replacement antique green leather skiver. The desk is in excellent showroom condition having been cleaned and sympathetically repolished. This superior quality antique desk has vary unusual design in the style of Thomas Chippendale. A large mahogany partner's desk, it has attractive serpentine sides and top, shell and swag carved corners and 'egg and dart' moldings. The pedestals have rounded corners serpentine exterior sides with paneling and are each fitted with four drawers to the front and the back. The whole stands on substantial bracket carved feet. The drawers have carved moldings, acanthus carved handles and have mahogany drawer linings. The desk still has its original faded coral pink writing surface which has developed a beautiful patina. The top has a bull nose molded edge with decorative carved brackets over the knee hole. The desk was made in France and sold via Maple and Co. of London. The drawer locks are stamped for Maple and Co. in Arts and Crafts style lettering. As with all pedestal desks, it comes in 3 parts for ease of handling and transportation. Large Antique Arts and Crafts Partner's Desk. This large oak partners desk (72" x 48") has a green, antique finish, hide writing surface with gilt tooling surounded by a band of quarter cut oak. The top is fitted with two drawers either side and the pedestals are fitter with three drawers to the front and back. The drawers are ash lined, of dovetail construction, with ornate brass handles. The pedeatals have attractive paneling to the inner and outer sides and stand on turned legs with brass castors. This very handsome Arts and Crafts desk is made from solid oak with quarter cut oak featuring medulary rays in the panels.
