Unusual Aesthetic Movement Ebonised Torchere c1880
We have for sale the perfect decorators piece, a very unusual and rather wonderful Victorian ebonised and gilt Aethsetic Movement torchere dating to somewhere around 1880.
This very striking torchere consists of an acanthus inspired base extending to a moulded column and terminating in a bulbous sconce on a circular flat wax pan. The sconce fits a candle with a diameter of around 1.75 inches. The Torchere was derived from the estate of Sir John Harvey Jones MBE.
The torchere is 60 inches (152.4cm) high and 12 inches (30cm) wide to the base. It is in a good functional and decorative antique condition other than a repair to one side of the acanthus like base, however this doesn't detract from its visual impact. The torchere is a truly lovely usable decorators piece.
