Rare Arts and Crafts Dugdills WAS Benson 'Open Petal Cog' Brass Table/Desk Lamp.

A superb and extremely rare early brass 'Open Petal Cog' brass table or desk lamp by John Dugdill of Stockport, Manchester complete with original Powell swirled candy stripe vaseline glass shade.

Featuring the rarest form of both 'open petal' adjusting cogs with 'leaf form' embellishments this table/desk lamp represents the earliest and most intricate work of John Dugdill who is considered to be the pioneer of early industrial lighting.  The interesting industrial hybrid design amalgamates the Arts and Crafts style prevalent at the time of manufacture with characteristics of the work by WAS Benson with the Powell swirled vaseline glass shade.

The lamp has a weighted base for stability and its main stem can extend forward by means of a twist action locknut hidden under the leaf embellishment.  Importantly, the lamp also has its original Dugdill twist action light bulb socket switch, which is fully operational and rare to find intact.

The lamp remains in excellent original condition with all its parts fully operational and intact. The Powell vaseline shade is original, undamaged and unblemished.

Size: 43 cm maximum extended height.

Date: c.1910.

Marks: Stamped 'Dugdill Patent' to rear of base.

Condition: In excellent original condition retaining its original patina and lacquer finish and importantly the lamp also has its original Dugdill twist action light bulb socket switch, which is fully operational and rare to find intact. In full working order and re-wired with black silk braided twist flex ready to use.
