Mid-Century Silver Plate Cake Slice, c.1940s/50s
This is a smart Mid-Century Silver Plated Cake Slice or Pie Knife in the Hampton Court / Coronation pattern that comes in its original box.
This pattern was introduced in 1936 and originally called Coronation. It retained this name in the United States but with the Edward VIII abdication crisis in the UK it was deemed inappropriate and the name was quickly changed to Hampton Court.
The cake slice is made by Oneida as part of their Community Plate range and dates to around the 1940s/50s. Oneida was founded as a community project in the town of Oneida Creek in NY State and incorporated in 1880. They launched Community Plate in 1902 and opened a UK factory in 1926, which closed in the late 1950s. They went on to become the largest cutlery and flatware maker in the world.
Condition is extremely good with no dings, dents or plate loss and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect with the passage of time and use. The carboard box has a couple of minor scuffs but is in generally good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cake slice is 25.2cm / 9.9ins long and 5.5cm / 2.1ins across the blade. It weighs in (unboxed) at 93.6g / 3.3oz.
The blade of the knife is stamped Community, for Community Plate and the box is branded Community Plate and Oneida Silversmiths.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
