The MTB 750 D Class Vessel

We are offering for sale this dramatic acrylic oil painting on daler board executed in great details.

The painting depicts MTB 750, which belonged to the Fairmile D Class of MTBs. It was built by A.M. Dickie & Sons of Bangor, Wales. It was ordered on 30th August 1942 and commissioned in May 1944 under the command of Temporary Acting Lieutenant Commander John Alexander Cecil Findley RNVR (13.11.1909-25.2.1972) from 19th April 1944.

He was also Senior Officer of the 66th MTB Flotilla and was awarded the DSC (Distinguished Service Cross) in 1945 for minesweeping and rescue work off Le Havre.

We understand that MTB 750 was sold in 1957 to the Danish Navy.

Harold Garland is or was a painter of marine and aviation subjects.
He is an Associate of the Guild of Aviiation Artists and has regularly exhibited at their Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries.

There are 6 of his paintings in the National Collection, some of which are available to view.

There is one of paintings of an MTB in the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth. Obviously a lot of his work is commissioned, so little comes to the auction market.

The painting has been newly framed in a very nice dull pewter coloured frame with navy central section, which suits it very well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
