Late 18thC Scottish Oval-Back Armchair c.1780-90 armchair georgian hepplewhite %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
The Scottish Georgian period open armchair in the Hepplewhite taste, in faded floral upholstery, having swept padded arms and an oval back, to tapering front legs with bullseye patarae and spade feet to unusual geometric rear legs, the whole surviving from the last quarter of the eighteenth century.

The chair is in lovely country house condition making it hugely appealing. The elm seat rails are replacements, with the unusual back legs being original to the chair. It is ready for re-upholstery although is in nice sleepy country house order with the faded fabric with no tears.

This is a real character of a chair, of instantly recognisable Georgian design yet with a dash of Scottish idiosyncrasy thrown in.
