Indenture in the Reign of Henry IV dated 1412
Handwritten in Latin onto Vellum Indenture in the Reign of Henry IV dated at Covenham, Lincolnshire, 18th September 1412.
The Indenture is between a Thomas and William Witthorne of Wyken, who received 60 merks of usual money from John Skypwyth. John Quitclaims to Thomas & William all Lands and Tenements in Covenham and Calthorpe, Lincolnshire, in Testimony of this Indenture was Sealed. Given at Covenham on the 18th day of September in the 13th year of King Henry IV, after the Conquest.
Has a Wax Seal of an Eagle inside a Shield.
William was William de Ros, 6th Baron de Ros of Helmsley (1370-1414) He was Lord Treasurer of England and Held very High Office with both King Richard II and Henry IV and was a Privy Councilor until his death in 1414.
Sir John Skypwyth who came from a very ancient and influential family with Estates and Manors in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. He was the Sheriff of Lincolnshire and MP and is buried at Covenham St Bartholomew Church.
