Chinese hand painted blue & white dragon dish.

The dish is a nice quality dish but what sets it aside is the fact it retains an extremely rare original (partial) paper label to the rear for Arthur Lasenby Liberty (the precursor to the famous Liberty's of London shop).

I showed photographs of this label to Arts & Crafts expert, Patch Rogers as he is a knowledge base on the early history of Liberty's of London. He was of the opinion that this partial label dated to c1875, the very beginnings of Liberty's when Arthur Lasenby Liberty opened his very first (& very small) shop at 218A Regent Street. The shop opened during 1875 and along with 3 sales assistants sold ornaments, fabric and objets d'art from Japan and the East.

The (partial) label on this plate is unrecorded and may be the only one to have survived.

I purchased this plate still in its original plate hanger (whuich has since been removed). The back of the plate was filthy probably from having been hung on a wall for over a hundred years!
