George V Cut Glass Preserve Jar with Silver Lid, 1919
This is a charming George V Cut Glass Preserve Jar with a Sterling Silver lid. The body of the jar has diamond cut panels between deep cut lotus flower shapes, whilst the base is daisy cut.
The silver lid has the marks for renowned silversmiths Cooper Brothers & Sons of Sheffield and is dated 1919. It has a slot cut into it for the jam spoon to sit in. This would probably also have been silver but has sadly gone astray at some point in the last hundred years.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks in the glass and no dings or dents in the silver lid. This has clearly been well looked after down the years and generations. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The preserve jar stands 10.5cm / 4.1ins high and is 7.6cm / 3ins in diameter. The Sterling Silver lid weighs a respectable 37g / 1.3oz by itself and the jar and lid together weigh in at 362.7g / 12.8oz.
The hallmarks on the Sterling Silver lid are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter b for 1919 and the C B & S in a shield makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
