Fine Marquetry Writing Table by Maple & Co
A Fine and Elegant 2-drawer Marquetry Writing Table by Maple & Co, the Harewood panels inlaid with ribbons, husks and swags, crossbanded in Kingwood, with string inlaid Mahogany legs and original castors, the top with quadruple banding of Satinwood, Mahogany, Harewood and Kingwood surrounding a faded parchment green tooled leather. Stamped Maple & Co to RH drawer, and locks by Hobbs. Freestanding and identically inlaid to four sides. NOTE Harewood is the generic name for the fiddleback cut of sycamore veneer originally stained green and generally fading with age to a light brown, much used in the late 18th Century together with Satinwood, and therefore in the Sheraton revival antique furniture of this type and period.
